And here is the older brochure from 1988, which also lists the low tops. They seem to be discontinued in '91.

That also lists flatbed Single cab pick up and doca as LT40. I've yet to see one though.

Thanks guys.
I believe he said the van was Dutch NATO & took him 2 years to find...but that doesn't account for the colour. He's built it,had it years & been all over..now looking to build another on Iveco 4x4 & do S. America, so prepared to sell to an appreciative enthusiast...seems I fit his criteria !

Seems his asking price is within the bounds of credibility...it's all there & has had rebuilt rear axle, motor, turbo & more, camperised  etc.....nothing major to do, except retrieve from Munich.

As a long-standing Wolfsberg/strange vehicle nutter & wannabe wanderer/explorer(with some modest success) type I fell in love with it as soon as I heard the familiar rattle (used to have a Volvo) arrive on site: keen to go, just don't want to buy into a money-pit slug with no parts availability.
You guys are helping me sleep at night.( If only I could keep the wife off me..: )...) (I wish)
Ta muchly.

So transmission parts are available ?
Fuel consumption ?

Unfortunately a consideration nowadays, especially with the grind across civilised Europe to start being anywhere of interest !
North Africa Grand Tour would be the (attainable ?) mission,(Maroc & E. until you couldn't: then bale on ferry to Greece or where ever): although the dream would be to ship to Madagascar for a ride out.
Hope springs Internal.
Cheers,Nigel.

Never noticed it in the brochures before... but I don't have Volkswagens...
(do have the brochures tho)

My N/A Diesel, 3200kg, does 19mpg max. About 14mpg offroad.

LPG conversion will sort that. For certain climates petrol might be better.

That looks alright....would seem a sensible price.......altho' I preferred it in red, with all the lights on.

LandCruiser motor sounds the job....4.1 litre would be helpful.

What fitment problems ?
Is the LT motor on a slant ?
Does the Toyota have lots of electronic bollocks ?
Is this a common conversion....bellhousing plates available ?

6cyl.VW 2.4TD stuff must be getting rare ??

Ta.N.

Madra...enjoyed your builtitblog. What's in Whitby ? We're near there...gi'us a shout when you're over.

Joking apart...seriously now,folks......
those old underpowered LT motors must be getting tired by now.....& apart from fitting 24valve exotica...
is there a common conversion using plentiful, long-lived, low (electronic) tech Jap diesels ?

We had a 2.4 TD in a Volvo estate, & it was noisy & barely adequete for the car: I'm not looking forward to the performance in a 4.5 tonne van: plus parts/used motors getting rare in UK.

I'm sure the rest of an LT 4x4 will outlive the hard-working motor......so what would be the next attainable/affordable & more powerful motor replacement ?

Cheers,N.

I don't know how easy they would be to fit (or how available they are in your area), but the older (non-electronic) Nissan 4.2 diesel (non-turbo) engines as fitted to Nissan Patrol 4WDs have a very good reputation here in Oz.

Many, many people add a smallish turbo (not too much boost) and they go forever. The cautious types also fit an Exhaust Gas Temperature gauge so they can tell when the engine is working too hard so they can back off to protect the engine.

Don't know about the Yota or Nissan engines, I think they're a bit too high?
If you want a modern Diesel, put a 2.5TDI in it...
I'll go D24TIC (from DW to ACL), simple VW engine, no electronics, plenty of parts and I love it...
