Hello Dear twins!

Summer affected me as well and i couldnt resist on a bargain from germany! 1.6 TD with 96.000 miles for 4000 pounds. Would you resist? I couldn't and i am now broke. But at least I am back in UK and I have a home if my landlord kicks me out.

That my sweet (but injured) gipsy.

Please help me repair it if you can by answering my technical question! In your forum.

P.S Somebody on the ferry took our front roof window (or air took it along with the handles) but is lost. Where can i find one and how much does this cost?

Thank you in advance

if that gipsy is the oettinger one advertised on mobile with a microwave grafted into the cupboard over the sink, we looked at it and the engine was about f***ked smoking like ivor the engine ,

eithier way youll probably  find theres no oil in your engine you, thats why your buzzer is on ,you should not have oil leaking from the intercooler

I am waiting for the hoses to come. Fingers crossed that with a service and new hoses and filters (air, oil) i will make it for the journey.

And yes the microwave according to geek calculations gives you 20 more klm/h in your brain when you cruise and you know that the micro is in your back :P but i dont have one. somebody was kind enough to remove it from the van

dont think that will cure much as there should not be any oil in any of your intake pipes ,you normally get a very small amount but thats it ,im afraid its eithier your turbo or your piston rings ,when you put your new oil in get him warm and pull the dipstick out if its smoking from there its your rings if no smoke from there pull your turbo intake pipe off your inlet manifold and see if it stops smoking from the exhaust when you rev it ( you should get a puff of black smoke thats it no light grey smoke at all),if its your rings it will get you to greece as long as you keep feeding it with oil ,if its your turbo you need to get it done as you could blow your engine competly ,should only cost you £200 to have repaired ,phone TB turbos there spot on ,it aint a big job at all

Hello people.

Thank you all for your answers and the more than enough help you provided with contacts and service points.

One last question before I start my journey is what type of oil is appropriate for the 1.6Turbo Diesel engine? you know this number W20-40 etc that i am not familiar with. How many litres do i need to fill in exactly when I remove the old oils from the engine and the filter??

Is there any way to clean the old air filter? or needs replacement?

Thank you

Dear friends i have good news and bad news

I am very happy that i can announce my arrival in Greece with my -smoking like hell- but very hard to die Gipsy.

After 3.420 km and 5 days and the van loaded with 2 years life London and full of boxes we arrived in Greece to the borders with turkey. Gipsy traveled sucessfully the km without any problems at all. The boxes with my household have left free space only on the top bed for our needs. (2 persons travelling).

Unfortunatly our loss is the right window of the top bed. A branch of a tree smashed it and we are now trying to find a new one.

Does anybody knows were can i find this window please?!
I am looking forward to your answers!

Hi and thanks for the reply. In the area where i am there is no caravan shop around. I need to travel 400 km. I tried the website you said but i cant find this window. Any Karmann Specialized e-shop?

Mazz i figured that the van was not full in oils when i bought it from Germany. The engine worked perfect with massive loads all the way to greece and BURNED 3 litres of oil.

Today i changed the oils along with filter again and Thursday i am going to Pilion - Greece for the 1st greek vw beetle and aircooled meetinng.

I am very anxious in finding this window. I am looking forward for you proposals for places to check online or any phone numbers.

Thank you in advance.

the window in your van is alloy framed and they are no longer made, you can try the karmann factory direct in osnabruck they may be able to help you failing that you will have to put a rectangular window in place of the old one.like the later gipsys

Karmann are under new management and won't want to know-believe me I've tried!  Oh and they are based in Sprendlingen now further south than Osnabruck.
