Porn it aint...they call it a gas-tight box for a good reason. Looks ok from here, remember I have never looked under here apart from fishing out the odd Nintendo stylus etc:
So I decide to remove the cover and have a look inside to make sure alls well. OK it's a snug installation against the firewall, but turns easily to release and fiddle over the valve etc:
Feck me! The installer has seen fit to break off two of the bayonets to make it easier to fit the cover! How the hell is that supposed to be gas-tight? This is supposed to be a certificated install. Shit. Edited by silverbullet - 10 Nov 10 at 16:36 |

Shocking !!!! Surely these companies get inspected by a governing body ?
I was thinking about getting my T4 converted soon, any recommendations? |

Fecking thing was running nicely, if a little rich at 0.92- 0.95v indicated from the lambda on the school run this avo (150 miles M25, A21) but then started to play up again at low speeds and even started to cut out while cruising at 70 on the return leg!!!
It's a wiring fault. After a hiccup (along with the tank solenoid click) the display "counts back up" just like when first switching on, so it's supply (or earth) must be getting interrupted and it momentarily shuts down. I've found the AEB site and downloaded the wiring diagram for the 725A switch unit. Going to re-do the whole thing tomorrow with proper earth returns back to the vehicle loom and the supply from the fuse/relay box On the upside, I did manage to get 88 miles from 21.5 litres = 18.5 mpg so it's improved. Not the 21mpg I used to get but we're going in the right direction.
Then I'm going to look into getting an ignition advance module, like it should have to make it a true dual-fuel conversion.Edited by silverbullet - 17 Sep 10 at 21:56 |

I resolved last night to get stuck into the LPG wiring this morning, which I duly did. Blimey charley, a few hands have beeen at the wiring under the dash over the years: A bit daunting with no diagram and when it all looks nothing like a german buses wiring! Some of the additions were to bypass the OEM SA immobilizer, some for the CONLOG cruise control (aftermarket SA)

Hi folks. If anyone is interested - I have just had my 2.5 petrol/lpg serviced by Steve at Gasure in Saltney. I have had it a year and have had no problems at all with it at all. It has got a lube kit which I think is a must. The anual check Steve did took about 1/2 an hr, he found that the engine was running week so all it needed was a re-tune which was as expected as the system needed time to bed in. On the run back to Reford, 131 miles I got 24 MPG it was running well with a CO2 figure of 11% and pulled a lot better. I had a T3 2.1 b4 that with no problems with the Gas system which I ran for about 3 years. B4 that a Range Rover again no problems at all. Been running on gas for 13 years. They have all been reliable. I also get free parking in Sheffield city centre thanks to a green parking scheme from The City.

Nice to read good reports ! I too had many years & miles of smiles from 2 x T3 Caravelles converted by Gasure, & I mean 1000's of miles 4 or 5 euro trips every year for 6 years !!
I too must ask the question : Don't the LPG conversion companies get inspected annually by a governing body ????????? As an electrician who works to constantly updated British Standard Regulations I know every year I must have samples of my work inspected by my governing organisation to meet the building regulations Part P scheme. I'm constantly finding bodged and shockingly ( no pun intended!) dangerous levels of electrical installation carried out by mainly general builders in the past 10-20 years. This is why we have the rules & regs, it stops bodgers, jack of all trades & even stupid DIYers from putting others and themselves at risk ! Don't forget electricity only leaks when it travels to Earth, ie when you touch it !!! It's nothing like a Gas leak is it ?! Silverbullet ? Have you written to Gasure about these issues?????? After all 'The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword' !! If so, what was their reply ???????? This is very important legally !!!!!! VERY !!!! Does anybody know about the LPG associations in this country and their complaints procedure??? If there are any? or can any CowBoy get in on this ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Ps. I've just had my 2.5ltr 5cyl K jet SA T3 converted by a company near me, full report to be made in a new thread asap !! Pps. Just noticed from the pictures, there should be clamps on the plastic vent tubes from the 'gas-tight' or is that 'not so gas-tight' valve box ! These are for the tank fill & supply pipes, have you had any need to alter these for any reason? If they were fitted who removed them?? Edited by TransPorscher - 09 Nov 10 at 12:07 |

I've just gone from page one on this thread and don't have a clue what to do now.
I had a second hand LPG system fitted to my 1.9 DG recently by a guy in Cambridgeshire that had been recomended by Tinsly tech. I help to install it so I would have a good idea what was going on.
He did make most of the loom out of all sorts of ods and sods, but I would change that later. It ran fine all the time I was up there but on the journey home it all went pair shaped. So first thing was to change all the wiring to single lengths of wire, loom re made and again it run spot on. I then desided that the engine bay install was a mess, so change the postion of most of it to make it look a bit more "factory" with shorter pipe runs etc. Again run fine.
Move forward a couple of months, would not run on gas at all, tank level indicator showed nearly full tank. So off to intaller again hour and half up the road, on arrival he turns every knob there is and still no go, then he found the tank was empty and that the level sender had fallen off. Filled up again, then he adjusted the knobs and off I went again. Run fineish for a while and every since has been hit or miss mainly miss, don't rearly want to go back to the same guy again as he has had a couple of goes now and still not working.
So Back to my problem, I was going to take this to Gasure as I had been told he was the man in the know

He is. Not sure how overjoyed Steve will be working on someone else's installation, but you can always ask

He'd probably do a written report on the condition of the existing system with suggestions for rectification. A bit like I as an electrician would issue a Periodic Testing and Inspection Report in accordance to BS 7671. I'm not sure of the British Standards numbers involved in the LPG installation industry.

Well, it's all a bit irrelevant now anyway. I have recently found an lpg installer almost on my doorstep (they don't have a website so a google never showed them up...FFS) and the bus is going there for a re-fit and re-certification in the new year. It's all coming out to be replaced by another system with different tanks, the whole lot changed.
I've already reached payback mileage so no money lost and I'll put it all down to experience.

hi everyone very new at this stuff iwonder if any one could shed some light on my 2.5 T4 petrol with lpg conversion its a 2001 model only 64000miles and the lpg was done from new, ive owned it for 6 months and i must say apart from being a really nice comfatable ride i thought the performance was really poor sluggish and heavy on fuel but i have since found out(yesterday) that its running in limp mode stange i thought no management lite on dash but occasionally it dose flash at about seventy plus mph if it gets that fast as i say very poor performance and then slows even more the questions id like to ask how often if they need it dose the lpg system need serviceing or can i do anything myself also dose the lpg ecu hold the error codes as dose the petrol ecu as i now know that the petrol ecu resets after the ignition has been switched off and on again i'm a bit confussed help
