Hello,
A few years ago I worn out my 1,9NaIdi engine (sorry forgot the code due to long not seen) and parked my Bullie in a corner.
what I remember was that the compression I measured was 24Bar whereas VW stated thet 26 Bar was the bottomline. hence she didn't start anymore.

My van was originally powered with the KY 1,7D
I used all the KY goodies to install the 1,9D. including the exhaust.

now I have a early golf3 with a 1,9 TD in the yard non electronic, and wonder if I should put that engine into my van?

I'd prefer to keep it low budget for the moment, see if everything get and keeps running, and when it does I might decide to get everything in a better nick.

any advise/experiences from your side?

Thanks, Bart

24 Bar is sufficiently close to 26 Bar that it could be worth trying a different compression tester to see if the one you used reads low.
IDI Indirect Injection engines need the glow plugs working to start so I'd be checking they are all functioning correctly before committing to an engine swap.

Since you al ready have done one engine conversion, i think you will be able to do one more. You do now have around 64hp/124nm or 68hp/127nm. A 1,9TD is the AAZ engine delivering 75hp/150Nm. How ever the AAZ is almost a de-tuned engine and can easily be tuned to even more hp. 90hp is easily reachable. Add an Intercooler and oilcooler and tune it to 110hp.
I dont remember if you need a "new" JX ekshaust manifold or can use the AAZ one. You need a new ekshaust system and i think you will get problems with the hight of the Diesel pump.

Just do it :-)

I would say that’s plenty high enough to start , I would look at fueling /heater plugs

I'm sorry, that I need to disappoint a few of you, the reason why I made this post, is that since I used to use my van as a daily driver, so all systems were op to spec's.
And all over sudden In a weeks time I needed to start using the cold-start pull-out, and at the end of that week even that wasn't enough to get that engine going again.

If I would be gooing with the aaz engine, i have two things in mind, 1) can I use a JX pump on that engine? 2) it seems that these engines are "hot headded" am I right here? just like the JX? Since I live in France, it's warm here, and we have slow rolling hills, to me that seems a recepy for more heat? how can I get that (within reasonability) out the engine?
Thanks, Bart
