Compared to some of the realy interesting coversions listed here I think my post is somewhat dull. I am not an advance mechanic (clutch / gearbox change is me at my limit). Quick question, how easy is it to convert a watercooled 1.9 to 2.1. I am no auto elecrician so is it just plugs and plumbing or is there serious wiring involved, and a new fuel pump. Advice please before I part with my hard earned cash

Thanks

The 2.1 is fuel injected, the 1.9 is usually fed from a carb. Therefore you will need the rear wiring loom and all the fuel injection bits to put in the standard 2.1 engine.

I beleive that some people have put in the 2.1 and used the carb?

A friend of mine ( a bloody good qualified mechanic) converted my 1.9
injection Westy to a carb after having nightmare problems with an over
fuelling issue and this works A1!

We had to source all of the right ancilleries, hoses and pipework (from a
great breakers called Vardys from Nottingham) and we had to remove
blanking plates to install the inlet manifold and ancilleries, but after
several nights of blood, sweat and tears the old girl fired up and drove
better than when I first had her!

We decided to disconnect the engine management and idle stabilizer
keeping it 100 % mechanical and straightforward.

The reason we didnt sort the injection system was due to being unable to
find the exact problem (ECU and air flow meter were the culprits) and with
these 2 parts hard to find (due to it being a pre 85 digijet) and expensive
it was more cost effective to do a carb conversion which we knew would
solve the solution with immediate effect!

Enough of my ramblings!

ive run a 2.1 on a weber carb conversion... ran great after rolling road time, jetting etc..

still gave over 100 bhp on the rolling road and that was taking care as the engine was only 700 miles old....

the gut i then sadly sold it to  i belive tweeked a little more out of it with a better air filter setup.. and a up rated fuel pump..

the 2.1 will run on the orignal 2e3 carb but more fun to setup.. and they are often tired carbs now..

WHY T3's.... because they are just so adictive, and having one just aint enough

you can 2.1 a DG easily and it works very well, I agree a rolling road session will get the best as will a weber carb, but its not needed if everything is in good nick.. a carb rebiuld kit is available from GSF for the 2e3 cheap enough and a good clean out of it should be done in anycase..

more info on this is on the Club 80-90 forum..
