Hi everyone,

after my last post and the use of the vag online catalogue i'm making progress but i have come up to a problem you may have some ideas on..

My speedo doesn't function, i can rotate the dial by hand, the cable to the transmission is fine and i have replaced the plastic drive wheel that was worn that locates into the transmission but still no joy! Has anyone seen this before, or can offer any advice?

Many thanks

Andy

IS IT PRE 97

IF SO

ITS PROBABLY THE DRIVE IN THE GEARBOX, THE METAL CLIP THAT HOLDS THE DRIVE ONTO THE SHAFT SNAPS AND THE DRIVE GEAR CAN FLOAT ABOUT. ALTHOUGH VISUALLY IT LOOKS IN PLACE.

Hi Boss man,

your guess is correct - after managing to feel inside the gearbox through the locating hole for the drive i cannot feel the cog that will drive the drive as such!! I don't suppose you know of an easier fix than having the gear box out by any chance....

Thanks

Andy

yes mate

not easy, though but if you have some spanners or a tec friend you should succeed.

you need to remove propshaft and gearbox tail housing, you will lose your gearbox oil.

you will need the metal clip that holds the gear in place but the gear should be ok.

i'll check what you need if i get time.

anyway what do you mean guess .

I am the boss man.

The easiest solution to this problem is to find yourself a Roadangel or something like it.
This will display the correct speed at all times and you can switch from miles to kmph if you touring in Europe.
