Tightening the fan belt

   Hi
Having ripped the fan belt to shreds on the way back from Holland I have just bought a new one. Theoretically I know how to put it on - and adjust the torque but it is very difficult to get to and see what you are doing.
Has anyone done this and if so could talk me through it or give any advice before I start hacking away at the bolts? I am a very keen but green grease monkey -
