I have been contemplating this for a while, never really understood what it meant cos I did not know what a bumpstop was.

Anyhow I trimmed mine last night and was an easy job for a novice, so I took some pics I thought may help other numpties like me.

Firstly cut the ribs from the sleeve by hacksawing under bottom rib

Decide how many ribs to trim?

Then using the old bottom rib cut yor new bottom rib to same size using sharp wire cutters.

Bottom rib trimmed to size

Cut V notch into new bottom rib

Cut V notch into sleeve

Twist bottom rib into sleeve

Thats basically how I do mine.
Only you cut an extra rib off than I do.
I'm sure it will be fine.

This was a spare set i had from something, not sure what, i only cut one rib off. How many ribs should i cut off for my westy,(or how many should i have left above the sleeve) lowered -50 avo and running original shocks, saying that i do have a set of shocks in my shed not sure what from. May be lucky if they are shorter ones, is it a case of them being just physically shorter? if so ill just compare to the ones i have on, although 1 has rusted a small hole in it. i suppose that cant be good?

Westys have shorter bumpstops already.
It's only the commercials you have to trim.
Proper vans (ie Westy's) already have the shorter passenger carrying bumpstop and you don't usually have to bother chopping it.

Nice work Nick! Wink

If 'one' can be really 'bothered' the shock+bumpstop could be fitted without the sleeve. Then the gap from the top of the shock to the bottom of the bumpstop could be measured to see how much or how little travel  the shock piston has.Different van/spring/shock combinations bla bla,bla bla.......Then refitted with the sleeve of course !
