Ok guys, apparently I went to LT1 fuel tank school today. I have a 110L tank that I got new to replace the original T3 sized tank. It certainly was not as easy as it looked. It gets better though. I didnt have my thinking cap on during the process and put the original level sender in the new tank. Well it appears the feed and return tubes are shorter on the original tank. So, anyone happen to have a 110L tank fuel sender lying around that they could measure the tube lengths for me?

Um, are you putting a 110L tank in your T3 or your LT? My LT tank is 70L so where does the 110L one come from?

110L into the LT. It was an option when new. I got the 110L tank from VW. I think it was something like $200.

Ok, update. I went back to the shop today to finish it up. Of course as things would be, the turbo on the T3 went out last night, so I really needed to do this.
Pulled the tank partially back out. Pulled the sender and did a little measuring. I had to extend the fuel feed tube on the pickup about 55mm. I also bent the arm for the float for the sender so that it will indicate when I am almost out of fuel. I recommend that if you have the chance to pick up a sender for cheap when doing this swap, do it. I did not have that option so I made it work. It will probably read full on the gauge for a while but at least I will know when its getting low. Hopefully this helps someone in the future.

Where did you get the 110L tank Chris? Did you have to import it or did VW? I can't imagine they had it sitting on a shelf somewhere on the west coast.
With that, the TDI and my electric dodads, I might just make the 2000km range I want. Edited by Canada LT28 - 02 Feb 15 at 12:07 |

my buddy works at 1stvwparts.com. I ordered it through him. Not sure if he can still get that stuff as he told me last month that he might not be able to.
Not sure how it works in Canada, but if I need a stock part for my LT I can just order it from the dealer local to me. VW has some expemption clause that allows dealers to order euro only parts if the person ordering them can provide current vehicle registration showing a US registration. So I can get euro T3 parts, euro MKII parts, and LT parts..

I looked into this earlier, sender is NLA from classics . So your fix is the only solution.
Thanks for the info. The 70L tank is rediculous. I have twin 53 aux tanks, but they take up a fair bit of space. Was hoping to do the 110 swap so I could lose one of the aux tanks. |

Chris, have you got the part number for it? I will contact my supplier and see what he can do.

...and awake....still.
Away soon, so ?When is the next update on the 1.9TDi? I had to drive without the radio on today, Dearly Beloveds' fault, and without something to mask the powerless chugging it is rather sad. Still nice to chug from 20 to 55 without changing gear, and when at a steady throttle 30mph 'opening it up' she rushes forward. I know it is all torque, the Guzzi was the same, 25 to 120mph in top with no juddering, it does feel nice. Roll on TiC time, allegedly much easier than TDi. |

God, I wish the build were faster. 2 hr drive each time to go work on it. The engine blew in the T3 so that took precedence. Now that it is fixed (sort of), I need a transmission mount and carrier built for it and driveshaft length changed, then it is all rad, hoses, shifter and electrics. Still not sure if I should get a DANA axle and swop out for a locking diff.
Torque of the Guzzi would be like that of my old B M W R100R. Best bike I ever owned, maybe....there were a few. |

That would do me in, half a day travel would limit your working time. When I use public transport it adds three hours onto my working day, and I do not really want to do it either.
Straying again. |
