Its not got windows yet, thinking paint first before they get installed.

Going seeing a guy today.

Alloys... Been looking on ebay. Is it right that Cayenne, Q7 and Touraeg fit?

Did you need a spacer to get over the centre hub?

Cheers.

Steve.

(Shall i start a thread of the build???)

Everyone loves a build thread chap

Q7 Toerag & Cayenne wheels need the centre bore machining out to fit the hubs. I'd go with 17's as 18's are a tight fit & you will have to trim the bumper.

So this is what I started out with in March 2013.

I insulated.

Cut out some window holes.

Bought and dry fitted some parts.

Sent it away for paint.

Put the bits back on and now it looks like this.

Then started on the interior, and now it look like this.

I went for 17's off a Cayanne.

Got to this stage late July, then went off travelling for a month.

Just back from Busfest and after good feedback there thought I'd share it with you. Smile

Thanks, lots of hard work gone into it. Its a beast to drive! Thumbs Up

Size? Its only 6.5m with the bike rack up and another 1m or so open.

You soon get used to it.

The whole point of making another van was for the fixed beds.

So easy to jump Into after a few beers, or indeed jump out of if freecamping in a place you shouldn't!

I'm not keen on bench seating in the front, there is only 3 of us and this layout works really well for us,  as well as making it feel roomy.

We also have 2 dogs that would have slept on it which wouldn't have gone down well with swmbo!

I really wanted to get my motorbike in the back, but this would have reduced the headroom too much to be comfortable. We all have to make sacrifices! lol.

Forgot to mention, were fully self sufficient for electric.

Its a 250w domestic panel running 2 x 110v batteries and a 6k inverter.

If you have the space for a domestic panel, get one. A fraction of the price of the "motorhome" ones and so much more power. Smile

Not run out of juice in the UK, yet...

Appen with a covering of snow it might be a different matter.

Good tip on the solar panels - I've done the same with 12 V lighting. Anything from a caravan suppliers is pricey, but low voltage kitchen and cabinet lighting from the likes of Screwfix can be a good deal. Do you have a link for the panel?

But a 6 kW inverter?! That's over 500 amps at full chat...I hope your wiring is up to it Shocked
Mid engined, 6 cylinder, turbocharged 2 seater - it can only be a VW LT!

The panel was just an ebay one that a guy was selling. Loads on there.

I'll never put 6kw through it, I got it at very good price of a neighbour and couldn't say no!

I did melt my first battery connecting cable when the wife was vacuuming though! Lesson learnt...

If you going down the big solar route you need a a MPPT controller to regulate the voltage.

35v from the panel going into a max 18v to the system.

Is what I used and is great. They do bigger amp's if you need it.

£300 all in plus your batteries is a good investment for off grid living. Smile

Cheers for that. I suppose the other benefit of such a big inverter (mine's 'only' 1 kW!) is that you'll never be working it that hard. I've had to replace the output transistors on mine once, when I connected an old CRT TV to it - I think the brief power surge that its power supply would have drawn was too much for it.

I've not got a solar panel at the moment, as most of the use the van has we move on quite regularly so the alternator can top up the leisure batteries. But we're now starting to stay in one place for longer, so solar may be the way to go!

Yep, that's true.
Its mainly used for the fridge for us, I like cold beer! :-)

Its also nice saying no to the extortionate hook up prices some of the camp sites now charge.

We are running twin 90 panels. Tip for winter is to put isolating switches in the live leads connecting the bank, this stops the whole system dieing. When number 1 is fully charged add number 2 etc

Well, I have been busy trying to finish the van ready for this years camping. Using it all over winter, getting out in all weathers is great fun.

Had the seats retrimmed in Marine grade vinyl and everything I could easily take off has been carbon hydrodipped.

Had the first weekend away in it like this last weekend and all was good.

CamperJam this weekend. Anyone off here going?
