Hello Everyone! I'm Steve and I'm from Dublin. 2 weeks ago I drunkenly agreed to buy an old LT 28 that had been laying up less than a mile from my house, It turned out to be a proper 8 seater "out of the factory" Kombi, It belonged to a Fire Station in a town called Dingolfing in Germany, They owned it from 1979 to 2001 and was brought to Ireland a couple of years back by some German dude, It's very clean and has only 88,000km on the clock which is about 55,000miles which aint bad, It's a 2ltr petrol model.

Yeah gonna do it over the winter hopefully, I'd love to pop top it but I think I'd have my work cut out finding one (ahem excuse the punn) the main thing for now is keeping it on the road...I'll take a few more pics if the rain stops, It looks a lot better now, all the black crap washed off an I got the sign writing off with some petrol....Where abouts are you yourself?

im in rathmines, but ive nowhere to park the van around here just yet.

i have gutted the inside out of mine and have alot of work to do, but i would consider some kind of high roof if you are looking for the insurance/tax benifits of being a camper. i have learnt all the ins and outs of what you have to do

We have to use similar tactics to avoid vehicle taxes. That's the closest thing we have to MOT in California. For example, pick-up trucks with a camper shell can be registered as a private vehicle. Otherwise, it's nearly double to register as a commercial vehicle. It's not that expensive though. It adds about $50 per year depending on weight. The nice thing is the commercial plates allows you to park in places such as downtown (Financial District) San Francisco where few street spaces are available for private cars. A ticket in one of those spaces can cost a years worth of vehicle fees. Same would be true for my LT Panelvan.

I was comparing prices for Camper vs Classic insurance, Classic insurance for an 8 seater Kombi still weighed in lower than the Camper insurance so I went for that, Its registered as a private vehicle unfortunatly so I dont get any parking benifits, in January it becomes a classic in the eyes of the Man so €59 a year tax and no more testing ever balances it out.

Just got back from France. It was a rollercoaster of a ride, but the van was solid. Lots of bread, stinky cheese and wine... My girlfriend has discovered she doesn't like camping, or driving, or France, or me... so I'm looking for a new girlfriend.

Time to go clean it out.

Here's a different point of view. It handles fine, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the springs, perhaps an optical illusion?

This was a converted builder van, but it was converted basically from new from what I know. The air flows in on the motorway, which was disappointing because I was going to make it a designated smoking area, haha. But it's good for hanging wet towels as we discovered...

We did bring back a fair amount.   The UK customs pulled two cars off the ferry for inspection. The neo-hippies in a VW van and a black guy with bling bling up the ying yang in a mercedes benz.

I thought it was a bit stereotypical but they were all friendly enough...

1995 was the last one - I think the new shape come in, in 1996

I ordered two S107 from leisure windows, they don't keep them in stock now and it takes two weeks to get them made up, but their service was brilliant.

The price (as I noted them at the time of ordering) were as follows;

S107 sliding Radius (curved corners) x 2 @ £83.37 each
+ Rubbers for the S107's x 2 @ 9.00 each
+ £18.50 (can't remember what that was for...)
+ £17.50 for a fitting kit

The whole lot come to £259.37 inclusive of VAT for two sliding windows. Their number (if you want it) is: 01536 266130

I am starting with this and hoping to end up with a functional camper, at least i dont have to do windows as they are factory fitted. got a feeling it may take some time.

hi to all LT freeks im new here but had my lt for abouts a year and a half and its just got worse since day 1!!! it was a camper but ive had to gut it due to internal rust and lots of it(rotten channel from a leaky hi top and lots else where ) we were one step away from reluctanly scrapping it due to not enough time. but after going to vanfest decided to try harder

ha ha! it got character alright, like the triclops lights, it hasnt just got one missing!!. my guess is that with the crude split charge system it had and the lights on full the old altenator struggled but hell, who can tell whats happend after 30yrs!!! still is ugly tho, makes me laugh everytime i see it when its not under its tarp(the hitop is not on any more due to repairs )
