Can anyone enlighten me on this...

Does the Gipsy/Cheetah have special suspension?

Reason for the question is that I have a '86 doka with a campertop, which is VERY unpleasant to drive even with just a small breeze :/

Not really, many owners lower them with -50 mm avo springs and match them with bilstein b4 for a stiffening and sharpening of the handling.
