Hiya everyone.
It's truly wonderful to see the amount of interest here in the LT series - it's good to know we are all out there, running LTs, causing traffic tailbacks, camping here there and everywhere and tackling the same niggles and problems as each other. I feel it's now time, seeing camping season is slowly drawing to a close, to start doing something online to bring our efforts together. We all have different things to offer I bet - I for one am good with leisure electrics but not great with engines, whereas others could be engine experts but need tips with bodywork, someone else can help with layouts, someone collect images of our vans, etc, etc..... this list is indeed endless. Over the past few months, I've seen so much exchange of superb information here, which is proving that it could be good to keep up the impetus and get some form of website running of information, get a LT FAQ put together, start an image library, gleen as much as we can from web resources and expand what we have. I, for one, have already put together a letter to David Eccles of Camper and Commercial and will be sending it to other VW publications. I'm also going to contact the old President of the VW LT Motorhome Club to see if he could help to get word out amongst older members. Then it would be good to hit the non-VW mags like MMM, etc, to make others aware that we are here. I've registered www.vwlt.org.uk which, for the minimal cost, I'm happy to donate, and I saw another link earlier today - and I'm sure we have enough web wizards who can put together a good site. Forum wise, Simon is more than happy to accomodate us here which is great - people know we are here - so why move? So - my question is - what do we want from all of this? I'm not interested in talking money, etc, as other forum based clubs work without it, so think we should be the same. Over to you all..... (PMs accepted too) Leigh.... |

My opinion is that we stay here..Its great...
The whole brick-yard scene is a great vibe..
Maybe we should have a poll...

hi i hope to be a lt owner by next week, me and the missus are very excited, she has wanted a gypsy for the last year but now we have our sights set on a sven heldin
i am no expert in anything but have vw's golf, t2, t3 t4 and have tinkered, ive built my own interia, done the electrics, put high top on, changed springs, hub nuts etc so may be of use to someone. although not to may forum users round my way. can do some computer things but not one for chatting much, especially in the general shite sections wouldnt mind if forum was brick yard based or not, seperate sale section may be good though |

this works great as a forum but it would also be nice to have some kind of LT branded front end, hosted under a unique LT url. It could offer FAQ's, photo's, classifieds, links to other relevant sites etc. I'm not suggesting ditching brick-yard, just setting up something to work alongside it so you can still access this forum, but from our own branded homepages???

I agree with setting up a front-end for the site - that way we can establish ourselves as a club properly and send interested parties somewhere. A gallery would be ace for attracting new members and showing off what you can do with an LT, and would be relatively painless to set up (as long as someone is willing to provide hosting, though I don't think there is enough of us yet for this to be a problem :D).
Definitely interested in classifieds - I've also been pondering a parts database of sorts - where we can list bits we have lying around so the rest of us can browse through easily (I don't know about you lot - but sourcing parts for my LT has so far been a nightmare). Probably something to look into once we have the basics sorted, and maybe something Simon (BY admin?) would want to integrate here for all the other dub commercials. Also several FAQs - one for each technical aspect (engine, basic interior, electrics, equipment), as well as stuff listing trade joints that specialise in LTs, etc. Rather than just linking to forums here in a slap-job fashion (no reflection on these great boards), perhaps we can look to expand but remain well-integrated with BY? (eg. similar design) |

Wow - things are starting to move forward... I like the community spirit and layout at Brick-Yard (now that I have found it) In my experience, VW splinter clubs soon become too specific in their membership requirements (purist) and ... and well, up their own wotsits...
I am very keen in being involved in any VW LT club that is setup.. and I think VWLT.org.uk is a great domain name for any club site. (I wondered who had got it....)
Could I suggest that any forum aspects of a website stays with a Brick-Yard 'section' thereby allowing a greater intergration and interaction with other VW owners and the 'LT club' sets up a seperate web site, more of an interactive, information site - with specific information for LTs, like; members articles, technical information, repair guides, club events and meetings, live chat area, gallary etc. etc. I would hope there would be a direct link from this site to a specific club site and visa versa.
I have a number of web servers that I already use for various commercial and club sites (some of them VW related) and would be willing to offer hosting space for HTML, PHP, MySQL (Apache) - sorry I only use Linux servers.. Edited by mikebdomain - 17 Sep 08 at 08:42 |

absolutely, but vwlt.org.uk should deffo point to a uniquely branded LT page with logo, information and links etc. This forum can simply bolt onto that ??
If anyone's interested in this idea, i'm happy to design and produce a logo and a portal page for this purpose. let me know.... |

HI at the begining of this thread I was one of those who was in favour of a seperate club. But Ive come to realise everything we need from a club is available here on By its just jumbled up within the posts, if it was organised into sections for easier access like whats been done with the tech sec with lincs to people who can help or support you that would be great. Im now in favour of something running in paralel with the brick-yard, lets face it this is where it all started and theres masses already availlable here

Also mentioned in another thread, if everyone wants to go down the route of assigning a name for our clan, i can design a logo and produce simple van stickers. I've got a nice sign making machine sitting here doing nothing!
what's the current member count? |

I think a seperate site for database, hosting and gallery etc is needed. This forum is fantastic for use as exactly that, a forum, a club site could have a little more to offer.

cant help but think what we are doing with the lt is far closer to that of the self build scene than the b.y scene, we just happen to be cooler than most self builders. if we were to tag onto the back of somthing shouldnt it be self build scene. i say no no no, but they do have alota good stuff and helped alot with my t3
mayde a seperate website with all the info on and forum section brings you straight back here |

I'm not so in favour of the self-build idea (from a camping sense) because my van isn't a camper :D I'm interested in them camper or not, and want to help keep the lovely old girls on the road regardless of their use. The most important part of having a front-end website is showing distant LT owners we're here - something to pop up on the first page of Google.
Go ahead and get some logos made dan, I'll do the same (and anyone else that fancies it), and we can then settle on a particular style or colour scheme as a group - then go on from there for the front-end. Edited by Tommy28 - 17 Sep 08 at 12:37 |

My answer was according to http://www.oxfordshirevwoc.co.uk/VWAnorak1.htm
Although upon further research it actually means Lasten-Transporterens (obviously German which actually translates to Load Transporter) Edited by mikebdomain - 17 Sep 08 at 13:13 |
