So, after a very long time in planning the engine is out.....(Thanks to Uberhare). Now the fun begins on the installation of the 1.9M-TDi with a passat quattro tranny and (eventually) electric motors on the side drives. Wish us luck in this most "Hutch" like endeavor.Wink

Remember, I took the diaper off as it was big and black and I though he was old enough not to need it. I was wrong.LOL

Uggg, 4 years of planning, SWMBO wants the T3 for a camper and the longer I use it for a work truck, the harder that will beConfused as I kind of mess trucks up, haha

I know you have said previously what the electric motors are for, but refresh my memory please.

The electric motors (haven't decided what size yet, maybe 5kw ea) are to go on the side output shafts on the box. There was a mod made to the box whereby the shafts are engaged to the rear wheels when in neutral. I want to make a plug in hybrid.Big smile. Just for fun, you know.

Suddenly your hybrid idea makes a lot more sense to me! The penny has dropped - I thought you were going to link them to the wheels which would be a lot more engineering. But with the transmission you have, it should be a (relatively) simple job. I like Thumbs Up

I think there is little issue mechanically doing this but I still haven't figured out how to do the throttle yet. It would be nice to be able to use the peddle but the design still hasn't come to me as most hybrids are fly by wire, not direct cable.

You could mount an extra cable to trigger something like this?

Uberhare and I were spending the day mucking about with the engine when this happened?

Drain pan will need to be changed for a passat one and the majority of the engine will be forward of the cross beam. We may have to chop of the top rounded part of the cross beam and weld a flat plate on it. Hopefully the cover will clear the oil filter. Gotta find a spot for power steering pump as well. Shifter is a bitch as it is on the right side of the box so need to work that out too.

That is something like what I need. My thought was to put in a new pedal box which would go to a solenoid. When in electric mode, the throttle would go directly to the motor controller but when in TDI mode, it would flip over to the cable to operate the diesel pump.
