finding a good one might be the problem, remember theyre getting old now, and most of them were in commercial vans doing plenty of miles. saying that though, getting one reconditioned while out would be a lot cheaper... and some old Volvos used the same motor so might be worth looking down that route at the breakers instead.
sorry i cant be any more help :(

There are differences in the water pipes and air ducting to mention a few.
You are best of buying a complete van for parts but as said above good TD engines are hard to come by. Russel

How about trying one of the electric superchargers? No idea how effective they are but it would be a hell of a lot easier and prob cheaper!!

Yep there for real. in theory any fan or turbine which increases the manifold pressure more than standard will increase power. But and heres the but, diesels need a precise mixture of fuel to air or they dont run efficiently if the pump doesnt deliver the right amout of fuel then it can have the oppposite effect.

plus the fact that creating enough boost for a 2.4 L engine is not really gonna happen lmao!
more suited to a smart car |

Hi Spesh, don't know where in the UK you are, but have you seen this - if you have the space to keep it and strip it, buying a scrapper like this may be a much better bet than just buying an engine. Sell other bits left over & scrap the leftovers to claw back some of the costs too! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=320363466404 Cheers, Peter. |

It won't make much difference, but in theory it should make a little bit.
Should improve fuel consumption a little bit as well.
Works on the same principal as an Induction kit like the brap braps fit to saxos... simple yet apparently quite effective.
To me, the air system on LT's is very restrictive - yes it gives you a bit more torque, but driving with a (relatively) light camper isn't gonna need it... so the more air you can get in / the leaner air fuel ratio you can get it to run on, the better.

the 2.4 td engine fitted to Volvo 740 / 940's is the same engine. Does need more work to fit it but it does go in. If you find one I can offer a fitting service for you.

I'm interested in fitting a volvo engine in an LT35 which has the 2.4 non turbo. Do you just need the engine or do you need the rad and plumbing too, or can the existing be bodged a bit to suit? Are the engine mounts in the same location?
Also does any one know if the starter and alternator are the same as the non turbo? Thanks in advance for any help |

You need just the complete engine out of the Volvo. You will need to swap the passenger side mount off the LT engine onto it. Buy a LT TD engine mount for the passenger side. Cut the mounting point off the chassis and re weld it to the side of the sub frame. The Alternater and bracket off the LT engine need to be swapped ti the volvo engine. The Viscus fan needs mounting to the Volvo engine and theres also an extra water hole in the Volvo block that needs blocking off.
Theres a few more bits and bobs too that need doing also but I cant think if them at the moment! Its quite a big job to do to be honest. it takes me approx 3 days to carry out the conversion but Its the best thing I've done to my van. It really does fly now. Craig. |

Lt35-craig is doing my TD conversion. Dropped off the van and engine today along with a new clutch, rad, waterpump and exhaust. He's gonna take some pics along the way so i'll post here or on my blog http://ltcamper.blogspot.com or maybe he'll upload them here directly. I'll have my hands on it 1st June when I'm back from a holiday.

I think you'd have a problem with passing an MOT if you decat a 2006. Maybe a larger turbo, bigger intercooler and rechip it. Or just larger intercooler and more boost.
Or rip out the engine and stick in a nice big V8! |
